Dementia-Friendly Allotment
Almost one million people in the UK have some form of dementia. Enjoying activities in nature and in the garden go a long way in supporting wellbeing for people living with dementia. We use all our senses, engaging body and brain as we marvel at the great outdoors – see the colours of plants, feel the texture of leaves, listen to birds singing, and smell the mixed aroma of herbs and flowers. Being outside can provide lots of different experiences, offer inspiration, giving time to pause and be at peace.
The Town Council are proud to be involved in the New Milton Dementia-Friendly Allotment, set up as a community project in 2017. The Dementia-Friendly Allotment offers gazebo seating, raised planters full of flowers, herbs and vegetables, and is maintained by a group of friendly volunteers.
This is the perfect place to relax, socialise, and admire the balance of horticulture and allotmenteering. Open during the summer months on a Tuesday from 11am–1pm.
We need more volunteers to help at the allotment. If you have a couple of spare hours available on a Tuesday morning, you might like to join our friendly team.
This is a lovely role which involves welcoming our visitors and helping with watering and weeding.
