Town Council Events
The Town Council actively support community events, in addition to hosting the Annual Carol Service and Annual Civic Service on behalf of the Mayor.
Summer Afternoons of Live Music
From June to September, we host live music gigs from the Performance Pavilion on the War Memorial Recreation Ground. These take place on the first Sunday of the month from 2-4pm and feature popular local bands and performers for everyone to enjoy free of charge!
We welcome the support of local businesses and organisations for these events and ask anyone interested to contact us to discuss how they can contribute.
We will announce our guest performers in the new year. [link to poster and calendar]
Annual Remembrance of the WWII Bombings
Every year, on 23 August, we assemble to remember the New Milton residents and visitors who lost their lives when enemy bombs fell on our town during World War II.
A short act of remembrance is held at 11am that morning at the Memorial Clock on Station Road, when we assemble for 1-minute silence, a prayer, and acknowledgement of those citizens who were killed on 23 August 1940, 8 August 1942 and 22 January 1943.
Annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Wreath-Laying Ceremony
Council Officers and New Milton Royal British Legion work closely together with the Remembrance Event Team to arrange the Annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Wreath-Laying Ceremony around the War Memorial. The Parade sets off at approximately 10.45am from Crossmead Avenue Car Park, to arrive at the War Memorial for 2 minutes’ silence at 11am and the Wreath-Laying Ceremony. Once the wreath-laying is completed, the Parade continues on the route along Station Road to the Memorial Hall to attend the Service of Remembrance.
Annual Remembrance Sunday Service of Remembrance
The Service at the Memorial Hall, starting at approximately 11.45am, features presentations from local schools, sharing information about New Milton residents associated with key moments in history. We welcome the public to join us at this service conducted by local clergy.
Annual Act of Remembrance at the Indian Obelisk on Remembrance Sunday
The Friends of the Indian Soldiers Memorial Obelisk assemble around the Indian Obelisk, Barton on Sea, at 3pm, in honour of the Indian Army who fought alongside and supported us during the world wars.
Annual Commemoration at the Indian Memorial Obelisk
The Council supports The Friends of the Indian Soldiers Memorial, who work with Milton Heritage Society, to hold an Annual Commemoration at the Memorial in Barton on Sea.
The Commemoration is to remember the anniversary of the official unveiling of the Obelisk on 10 July 1917 by the medical staff at Barton Convalescent Home who had looked after recovering Indian Troops injured during WWI.
Further information about the historical context can be found on the Milton Heritage Society website.
